Friends, please read this critical note. I distributed it to fellow cancer victims on the Internet Prostate Cancer Problems List.

Thank you, Jack Weaver. .

Subject: Death -- and a man who's a "has been"

Q.) Why does impending death hold no fear for me?

A.) Simply said, "The Peace that passes all understanding."

I could be introduced as, "Jack Weaver; he has been:

  • a graduate of a major state university,
  • a production line worker in a tire factory,
  • an artist (fine arts painter),
  • director of the Training Aids Art Department, Redstone Arsenal, U.S. Govt.
  • a ceramic technologist,
  • the owner of two successful businesses,
  • the Governor's appointee to a Florida State business regulatory commission,
  • a member of Dade County's Republican Executive Committee,
  • a candidate for the Florida State Legislature,
  • one of the oldest graduates (at that time) of a nationally recognized Bible college (at age 43),
  • an ordained minister of the Gospel since 1972,
  • the pastor of a Bible church in south Florida (12 years) ,
  • a published author of a several trade magazine articles on applications of computer technology,
  • the Computer Systems Administrator at one of the most prestigious prep schools in south Fla. (11 years),
  • a survivor of prostate cancer since June, 1994,
  • a Bible believing, Heaven bound Christian since December 1964.."

In other words, I am a real "has been".

These introductory remarks are made to assure you that I'm not some radical cyber-nut spouting fables via the Internet.

But, to elaborate on one of these descriptions, I "have been, still am and always will be" a Heaven bound Christian who is not afraid of this "End Game" called death. What follows is my reason why.

It is a tragedy to see thousands of heart rending notes to members of the Prostate Problems List, written by cancer victims who are obsessed with the fear of death. I thank God there is a solution to the fear of death!

This, my friend, is my note to you. You are welcome to read this note, digest it, absorb it, believe it, ignore it or throw it away. I sincerely pray you will understand, consider and believe what I say here.

I trusted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior in 1964 when a dear friend explained to me that God loved me just as I am (certainly imperfect). Christ (who is God) came to the earth, humbly took on flesh as a Jewish carpenter. He subsequently died on the cross for the sins of the whole world -- but also, His death was personally for you and me, specifically for our imperfections (sins). As history and scripture record, He arose from the grave, proving to the world, He is God.

My friend showed me Scripture verses in the Bible which say if I trust Christ as my personal Savior, He will take my imperfections (sins) upon Himself and give me His perfection. He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. By His substitutionary death, I will have eternal life in Heaven with Him. All these benefits are mine absolutely free simply by believing (trusting) in Christ only by faith -- not by my behavior, not my good works nor my church membership.

Jesus Christ's gift to us of Eternal Life is truly free, with no strings attached. It is not deserved by any of us, but offered freely by His grace. Christ offers it to you now, just as He did to me in 1964. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

The more I studied the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, the more I was convinced that my new belief was true. And, wonderfully, the more I studied computers and electronics, the more I was convinced that the beauty and order of the universe and its contents did not happen by random accident. The only logical conclusion is that God planned and executed it all. This study further confirmed to me the veracity and accuracy of the God's Word.

In addition, God's Word offers me the assurance that, as a believer in Jesus Christ, someday I will be absent from the body and present with the Lord. As Scripture says to believers in Christ, "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." (II Corinthians 5:8)

Since the moment I trusted Christ as my Savior, God's assurance has been a consolation to me. It is even more so now that I am a Prostate Cancer victim/survivor. Surprisingly, when my wife and I heard my diagnosis, neither of us went "ballistic". We were concerned for the future, but we knew if we were torn apart by my cancer death, someday we would be together again in Heaven with the Lord. (I John 5:13)

I thank the Lord that all my children and grandchildren are also believers in Jesus Christ. Someday we will have one big happy family reunion, my immediate family, the Family of Believers and Jesus Christ the Lord God Almighty.. This is the meaning of God's Amazing Grace!

Please think logically and believe what I have said here, not because I say so but because the Bible says it and because Jesus Himself promised it. If you simply trust (the best you know how) what the Scripture says about Jesus Christ, you have Eternity to gain and nothing to lose. If you do not believe it now, I pray you will at least seriously consider it and trust Jesus Christ before you leave this earthly life. After you die it is too late! There is no second chance.

I am not "preaching" at you or to you, but simply sharing with you the Good News someone who cared for me shared with me. I could never be comfortable with myself if I neglected to share this with you, my fellow cancer victims whom I have grown to love and respect. This simple Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only real solution to the "Death" problem.

(For those of us who trust Jesus Christ as our Savior, death is NOT a problem.)

Thanks,

Jack Weaver -- (Published to the Prostate Cancer Problems Mailing List, April 1, 1996)
